Jake is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health (LPC-MH), Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), and National Board-Certified Counselor (NCC). He grew up in the beautiful Black Hills and is very excited to bring his professional mental health counseling services to Foundations Counseling LLC. He is a member of the American Counseling Association and he enjoys working with clients of all ages and circumstances. Jake is passionate about advocating for both his clients and his profession. His clinical approach is integrative and collaborative - drawing from a variety of theoretical methods that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Relational Therapy, Client-Centered Counseling, Positive Psychology, Play Therapy, Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, Stoicism philosophy, and others. This integrative approach gives him the best possible chance to reach his goal of always being helpful, respectful, and kind to clients while developing and carrying out appropriate counseling goals that allow them to become the best versions of themselves.
Jake earned his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Northern Colorado in both psychology and German foreign language & literature. He credits this experience as instrumental to developing his appreciation of diversity and laying the foundation for his current professional career. After his undergraduate studies, Jake spent time building literal foundations with his late father in the family business, Seidel Concrete. Interestingly, Jake feels that this work in the concrete business still informs his current practice.
Jake earned his Master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from South Dakota State University in 2013, where he graduated as the outstanding student of the year. After graduate school he worked in a community mental health center and non-profit organization. More recently he worked in private practice in Spearfish, SD for Black Hills Psychology. He is also an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and has volunteered with the American Red Cross for a 16-day Disaster Mental Health deployment in 2016.
Jake is appreciative of his family, friends, clients, supervisors, and fellow colleagues for all of their support and encouragement in his personal and professional life.
